I ate every burger on Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas and here is what I thought....

So, I don't know about you, but there are times that I just need a burger. Whether it be just a cultural addition to red meat or a perfect reason to soak up some alcohol, I just need a burger from time to time. From my perspective, I have found that burgers are a bit of an after thought for Royal Caribbean. It seems that it is somewhere between a staple that they need to have for children and nothing for adults.
I went on my last cruise with a mission; to find a decent go to burger on Anthem of the Seas. To do so I tried most of the burgers on the ship. I refused to get a burger from Johnny Rockets. First, really because I don’t like them on land and secondly, I just don’t get this pairing. If you are going to put an outside “burger place” on your ships why this one? Even Carnival with Guy’s burgers I think does a better job here. I’m so glad that at least the new Icon class has dropped Johnny Rockets.
And now for the results….. I tried 5 burgers on the ship and one at the Coco Beach club, and mostly their offerings confirmed my thought on this topic. The by far worst was the Royal Burger from room service.

It is describe as "Prime Wagyu beef" but I couldn't tell the difference between any other burger I at on the trip and as this was supposed to be the best quality beef of the bunch, that doesn't give a great vote of confidence.
Secondly, and I'm going off on a tangent here; I equally have the same thought with the french fries on Royal Caribbean ships. Most of the fries feel like some pre-made frozen fries that I can get from the local supermarket.

And the last complaint I have here; no sauce whatsoever, nada, zilch. My Son's chicken tenders came crispy, so to get a burger like this on the same order confirms the lack of effort to make an elevated burger, even when it is described as an elevated one... I would give this burger a 2 out of 5.

Next up was the Crispy Chicken Burger from Jamie’s Italian. Overall there were a bunch of positives on this plate. It had the best sauce; a chilli mayo that was very good and this was the best fries that I found on the ship.

Now could you make the argument that this is not a true “burger”? Yes, you are right it was a bread piece of chicken, not ground chicken but overall, I would eat this one over and over again before ordering the room service burger again. I would give this one a 2.5 out of 5.

Next up was the burger at the Windjammer. To anyone not accustom to Royal Caribbean, this is their buffet location. They have burgers in their “Classics” section but I wouldn’t stick my nose up to this one. Usually they have different burgers (my favorite being the French onion burger), and offer an array of toppings and condiments for you to make a custom burger. For the one I had, it was warm and juicy and made the way I like it, with the bun of my choosing. Again, nothing to write home about but still a solid burger that requires no wait time. I would give this one a 3 out of 5.

Next up was Chop’s Grille’s Dry-Aged Steak Burger. Overall, this was a solid burger. Loved the cheese and the bacon, but again the burger itself was unimpressive. The only I got needed salt. It was as if they thought the bacon was be enough salt for the whole dish. The fries were again just okay, thought we did get a side of mac and cheese at the table, and that was very good.

But sadly, again the sauce game was lacking. This seemed like a perfect place for an onion jam or something to enhance the burger but all that was put on the roll was some mayo. Another critic, would be that they roll was over toasted and was very crispy. Overall, I would eat this burger again but probably next time I would get a steak at Chop’s…. I would give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

And now, the best burger on the ship was the Royal Pub Burger at the Brass & Bock Pub. This was the only burger that was seared giving it that crunchy outside that holds all the juices inside the burger. It also helped that there were two patties on the order. It had a nice nice garlic aioli and was hands down the best burger on the ship.

The classic old fashioned was also one of the better menu drinks on this ship as well. Though pictured, I would not endorse the pretzels, the ones we got were dry and overcooked. Overall this burger was a 4 out of 5 and the best on the ship!

We Did also get a burger at the Coco Beach Club with the hopes that it would be something better than on the ship. Sadly it again the meat was just blah. The roll and sauce were on point but the burger was just bland and soft. I would give this one a 3 out of 5.
Did I miss any? Do you think I'm wrong? Should I give Johnny Rockets a try? Please let me know in the comments.
